Altea

Town in the Valencian  province of Alicante and in the Region of the Marina Baixa.  It has more than 25,000 inhabitants and is located south of Calpe and to the north of Benidorm.

The beautiful, wide bay has the Peñon de Ifach in Calpe at one end and the Albir Lighthouse in Albir at the other.

Access to Altea is easy as all the cities along the coast are connected by the AP7 and N332.

Almost one third of its inhabitants are foreigners, mostly from the European Community.

Obviously tourism is the main basis of its economy, along with construction and then agriculture.

It has always been a haven for artists, painters, writers and actors who live in the surrounding area.

Near the village is the fishing port and next to it the Nautical Club with moorings for 400 craft.   The Nautical club has sections dedicated to rowing, diving, kayaking, swimming and fishing.  Within the Sailing section, the club holds the Optimist, Laser, and Flying Dutchman fleets.

Altea also has another marina the Luis Campomanes, managed by Greenwich Marina which has a capacity for 600 berths and is situated approximately 3 km from the city.  This marina is unique due to the fact that it is situated on the Greenwich Meridian at 000 • 00'00
